| The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. | The Lord makes a man’s steps secure when he approves of his conduct. |
| It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. | It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to place your trust in mortals. |

| And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. | He replied, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh’? And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” |
| A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! | A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season. |
| Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? | Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? |
| A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. | A man may plan his own course, but the Lord makes his steps secure. |
| So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. | Therefore, we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” |
| Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. | Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts. |
| A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. | A fool is quick to show his anger, but a prudent man ignores an insult. |
| Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again. | Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. | One day, as Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the Sabbath, his disciples began to pick some heads of grain as they walked along. The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why are your disciples doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread that only the priests were permitted to eat, and he shared it with his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” |
| For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. | For all of us fall short in many ways. Anyone who never makes a mistake in speech has reached perfection and is able to control every part of his body. |
| How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. | How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. |
| Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. | Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you; fasten them around your neck and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will gain favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. |
| Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. | No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. |

| Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. | A man’s ways may seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart. |
| But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. | But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or how tall he stands, for the Lord has rejected him. He does not see the way that men see, for men look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” |
| Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. | Let no one deceive you in any way. That Day cannot come before the final rebellion occurs and the lawless one is revealed, the son of destruction. He is the adversary who sets himself in opposition to, and exalts himself above, every so-called god or object of worship, and who even seats himself in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God. |
| For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. | Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outer self is continuing to decay, our inner self is being renewed day by day. |
| Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty. | Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. |
| And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. | He replied, “What is impossible for men is possible for God.” |
| A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. | The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter, while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty. |
| It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. | It is honorable to avoid strife, but every fool is quarrelsome. |
