The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.
I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass.I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?
A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.
A person finds joy in giving an apt reply— and how good is a timely word!Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!
Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.
For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.
How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath.
A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.
The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.“All right, you may test him,” the Lord said to Satan. “Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence.
It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of the Almighty when you sin.

In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.
