You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him. | And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him. |
Do not love the world or what is in the world. If anyone does love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. | Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. |
I was eager to respond to those who did not consult me. I was anxious to be approached by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am! Here I am!” to a nation that did not summon me. | I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. |
Do not be afraid or dismayed, the Lord will go before you; he will not fail or forsake you. | And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. |
I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. | I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. |
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled; be not afraid. | Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. |
Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A person will reap only what he sows. | Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. |
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; nor will the waters engulf you. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you. | When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. |
I will make haste and not delay to observe your precepts. | I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. |
Let us never grow weary in doing what is right, for if we do not give up, we will reap our harvest in due time. | And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. |
A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness lies incessantly. | A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. |
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not allow myself to be dominated by anything. | All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. |
Fix your thoughts on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. | Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. |
But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. | But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. |
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them. | Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. |
As long as the goodwill is present, the gift will be acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. | For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. |
For sin is no longer to have any power over you, since you are not under the Law but under grace. | For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. |
Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not my own; rather, it comes from him who sent me.” | Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. |
Return, rebel Israel, says the Lord. I will not look upon you in anger. For I am merciful, says the Lord; my wrath will not continue forever. | Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger for ever. |
Those who place their hope in the Lord will regain their strength. They will soar as with eagles’ wings, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not become faint. | But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. |
Arise, O Lord! Lift up your hand, O God! Do not forget the afflicted. | Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble. |
For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith. This has not come from you but from the gift of God. It does not come from works, so that no one can boast. | For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. |
You want something that you cannot have, so you commit murder. And you covet something but cannot obtain it, so you engage in quarrels and fights. You do not have because you do not ask. | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. |
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. | For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. |
Dear children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. | My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. |
