Rise up (4/4)

  • On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”
  • So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
  • Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
  • Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
  • And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.”
  • And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
  • The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has anointed me
    to bring good news to the poor;
    he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
    to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
  • He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
    and speaks truth in his heart;
    who does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor takes up a reproach against his friend.
  • And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
  • Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
  • And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
  • If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
  • For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • But when they had grazed, they became full,
    they were filled, and their heart was lifted up;
    therefore they forgot me.
  • They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.
  • Open your mouth, judge righteously,
    defend the rights of the poor and needy.
  • A dishonest man spreads strife,
    and a whisperer separates close friends.
  • And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
  • Where shall I go from your Spirit?
    Or where shall I flee from your presence?
    If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
    If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
  • Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
    lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
    his name is the Lord;
    exult before him!
    Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
    is God in his holy habitation.
  • If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
  • Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.
  • Open your mouth for the mute,
    for the rights of all who are destitute.
  • Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.

but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.
