| But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. | But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. | When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? | As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them? |
| A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. | The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. |
| Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. | Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. |
| Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? | “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” |
