Shall (3/4)

  • You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • You must not exploit a widow or an orphan. If you exploit them in any way and they cry out to me, then I will certainly hear their cry. My anger will blaze against you, and I will kill you with the sword. Then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.
  • Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
    all the days of my life,
    and I will live in the house of the Lord
    forever.
  • The Lord your God will bless you as he has promised. You will lend money to many nations but will never need to borrow. You will rule many nations, but they will not rule over you.
  • When you go through deep waters,
    I will be with you.
    When you go through rivers of difficulty,
    you will not drown.
    When you walk through the fire of oppression,
    you will not be burned up;
    the flames will not consume you.
  • But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.
  • And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.
  • For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
  • Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.
    “At last!” the man exclaimed.
    “This one is bone from my bone,
    and flesh from my flesh!
    She will be called ‘woman,’
    because she was taken from ‘man.’”
    This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
  • And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.
  • I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.
  • The Lord is my shepherd;
    I have all that I need.
    He lets me rest in green meadows;
    he leads me beside peaceful streams.
  • Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen and donkeys and other livestock, and any foreigners living among you. All your male and female servants must rest as you do.
  • I know the Lord is always with me.
    I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
  • He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress where I will not be shaken.
  • Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
  • God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
    for they will see God.
  • For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
  • But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.
  • “For the mountains may move
    and the hills disappear,
    but even then my faithful love for you will remain.
    My covenant of blessing will never be broken,”
    says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
  • You must diligently obey the commands of the Lord your God—all the laws and decrees he has given you.
  • Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
  • So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
  • God blesses those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
  • He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress where I will never be shaken.

The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
