And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews. | Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews. |
Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. | Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world. |
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. |
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. | Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. |
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. | Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. |
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. | This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. |
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. | In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. |
Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. | And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. |
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. | For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. |
This also cometh forth from the Lord of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working. | All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, whose plan is wonderful, whose wisdom is magnificent. |
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. | So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. |
Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. | “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” |
