Tongue of a disciple (2/4)

  • But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.”
  • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
  • Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.
  • The vexation of a fool is known at once,
    but the prudent ignores an insult.
  • As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.
  • Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
  • Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
  • When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
  • Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
    but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
  • Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
  • Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets,
    but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.
  • Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
  • But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
  • Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man's envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.
  • And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
  • Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.
  • Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
  • When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
    but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
  • Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
    he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
  • For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
  • I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.
  • The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice;
    he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.
  • God, the Lord, is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the deer's;
    he makes me tread on my high places.

And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
