Why do bad things happen (2/4)

  • He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
    Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
  • The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
  • You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
  • So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
  • He reveals deep and hidden things;
    he knows what lies in darkness,
    and light dwells with him.
  • Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
  • But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
  • This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.
  • But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
  • Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
  • Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
  • Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
  • But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.
  • His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
  • Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
  • You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
  • Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;
    let this be known to all the world.
  • The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
  • Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”
  • And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
  • I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
  • Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
  • I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
  • “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
  • As you do not know the path of the wind,
    or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
    so you cannot understand the work of God,
    the Maker of all things.

I made a covenant with my eyes
not to look lustfully at a young woman.
