- Do not withhold kindness from anyone to whom it is due
when it is in your power to grant it. - Surely God is my helper;
the Lord is the one who sustains me. - The righteous call out, and the Lord hears them;
he rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord remains close to the brokenhearted,
and he saves those whose spirit is crushed. - For God would not be so unjust as to ignore your work and the love that you have shown for his name by the services you have rendered to the saints and still continue to render.
- Hear my prayer, O Lord;
do not be deaf to my cry
or ignore my weeping.
For I am a wayfarer before you,
a nomad like all my ancestors. - When riches increase,
so do those who are eager to accumulate them,
and those who have accumulated them must remain content
simply to feast their eyes on them. - And the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I wish to make another creature who will be like him.”
- I lifted up my voice in prayer to him;
his praise was on my tongue. - If anyone is rich in worldly possessions
and sees a brother in need
but refuses to open his heart,
how can the love of God abide in him? - Each of us must consider his neighbor’s good for the purpose of building him up.
- Two are better than one:
they earn a far greater reward for their toil. - O Lord, you are kind and forgiving,
filled with kindness for all who cry to you. - The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry. - Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cries of supplication. - Riches will be of no avail on the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death. - And learn to do good.
Pursue justice and rescue the oppressed;
listen to the plea of the orphan
and defend the widow. - But as for me, I will look to the Lord.
I place my hope in God my savior;
my God will hear me. - Keep falsehood and lying far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but simply provide me with the food that I need. - For the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation to the entire human race. It teaches us to reject godless ways and worldly desires, and in the present age to lead lives that are temperate, just, and godly.
- What right do you have to pass judgment on someone else’s servant? The master will determine whether that servant will stand or fall. But the servant will be upheld, for the Lord has the power to enable him to stand.
- But even so the Lord is waiting to be gracious to you,
and he will rise up to grant you his compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him. - May the God of perseverance and encouragement grant that you may live in harmony with one another, following in the example of Jesus Christ.
- Brethren, we must always give thanks to God for you, and it is only right that we do so. For your faith grows ever more, and the love that all of you have for one another continues to increase.
- I was eager to respond
to those who did not consult me.
I was anxious to be approached
by those who did not seek me.
I said, “Here I am! Here I am!”
to a nation that did not summon me. - For I am longing to see you so that I may bestow on you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or, rather, so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.
