Fear God and keep his commandments,
for that is the responsibility of everyone. - Let everyone submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which derives from God, and whatever authorities exist have been instituted by God.
- Rather, revere Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be prepared to offer an explanation to anyone who asks you to justify the hope that is in you. However, do so with gentleness and respect. - Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due.
- But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted.
- You have heard that it was said of old: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
- Everyone who sins comes from the devil,
for the devil has been a sinner
from the very beginning.
The Son of God appeared for this very purpose:
to destroy the work of the devil. - Therefore, while we have the opportunity, let us labor for the good of all, but especially for those members of the household of the faith.
- As Scripture asserts, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.”
- One person may consider one day to be more sacred than another, while another may judge all days to be alike. Let everyone be convinced in his own beliefs.
- Indeed, persecution will afflict all who want to lead a godly life in Christ Jesus.
- Just as in Adam all die, so all will be brought to life in Christ.
- Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of your opportunity. Let your speech always be gracious and seasoned with wisdom, so that you will know how to respond properly to all.
- Just as he came forth naked from his mother’s womb,
so shall he depart, naked as he came,
with nothing remaining from his labor
that he can carry away in his hands. - Moreover, the one to whom God grants wealth and possessions and the ability to enjoy them and to find contentment in his toil receives a gift from God.
- Nor would someone light a lamp and then put it under a basket; rather, it is placed upon a lampstand so that it may afford light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine so that it can be seen by others; this will enable them to observe your good works and give praise to your Father in heaven.
- Then he said to them, “Go forth into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to all creation.”
- The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise, as some think in terms of delay, but he is patient with you. It is not his wish that any should perish but rather that all should be brought to repentance.
- I reprove and discipline all those whom I love. Therefore, be sincere in your desire to repent.
- A man is joyful when he utters apt answers,
and even more satisfying is a word in season. - Whoever denies the Son
does not have the Father,
but whoever acknowledges the Son
has the Father also. - And so does kindness, O Lord.
You reward each person
in accordance with his deeds. - They answered, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, and so too will your household.”
