- I am pulled in opposite directions. My desire is to depart and to be with Christ, for that is far better, but, it is a more urgent need for you that I remain in the body.
- I lift up my eyes to the mountains;
from where will I receive help?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. - During the day the Lord grants his kindness,
and at night his praise is with me,
a prayer to the living God. - And my God will fully supply all your needs out of the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
- He continued, “Then put away the foreign gods from among you. Bend your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
- But as for me, I will look to the Lord.
I place my hope in God my savior;
my God will hear me. - The future bodes well for him
who is generous in helping those in need
and who conducts his affairs with justice. - For so has the Lord commanded us to do, saying,
‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles
so that you may bring salvation
to the farthest corners of the earth.’ - About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
- Then, after he had spoken to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven, and there he took his place at the right hand of God.
- And we are witnesses to these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.
- The wealthy man lords it over the poor,
and the borrower becomes the slave of the lender. - If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
- In my distress I called out to the Lord;
he answered by setting me free. - Jesus replied, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
- For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer.
However, the face of the Lord
is set against those who do evil. - But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Your almsgiving must be done in secret. And your Father who sees everything that is done in secret will reward you.
- Then he sat down, summoned the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he must become the last of all and the servant of all.”
- They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers.
- Then he took a cup, and after offering thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from this, all of you. For this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.”
- Let everything that breathes
offer praise to the Lord.
Alleluia. - “But you,” he said to them, “who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
- I have made your name known to them,
and I will make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me
may be in them, and I in them. - May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world is crucified to me and I to the world.
