Let your light shine (2/4)

  • Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God!
    Let your good Spirit lead me
    on level ground!
  • Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
  • But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • He reveals deep and hidden things;
    he knows what is in the darkness,
    and the light dwells with him.
  • But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
  • For the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true.
  • Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
  • My son, do not forget my teaching,
    but let your heart keep my commandments,
    for length of days and years of life
    and peace they will add to you.
  • For not by their own sword did they win the land,
    nor did their own arm save them,
    but your right hand and your arm,
    and the light of your face,
    for you delighted in them.
  • Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.
  • But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.
  • This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
  • As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me;
    your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!
  • When your eyes light on it, it is gone,
    for suddenly it sprouts wings,
    flying like an eagle toward heaven.
  • For so the Lord has commanded us, saying,
    ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
    that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’
  • No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.
  • For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.
  • Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
  • Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.
  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
  • But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
  • Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
