- The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.” - For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
- How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world. - The Lord makes some poor and others rich;
he brings some down and lifts others up. - And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
- But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
- You light a lamp for me.
The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness. - So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
- Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
- Then keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies! - Worry weighs a person down;
an encouraging word cheers a person up. - I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.
- A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. - You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
- If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.
- The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.
- May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed. - “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” - I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart. - Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them destroy you!
- Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
and see that they get justice. - And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet.
- Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
- But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
- Go back to Hezekiah, the leader of my people. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you, and three days from now you will get out of bed and go to the Temple of the Lord.’
