| But when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. | Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” | And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” |
| For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. | For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. |
| What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? | For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? |
| “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” | And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” |
