- When one will not listen to the law,
even one's prayers are an abomination. - Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
- As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
- Let the wicked forsake their way,
and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. - Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.
- One who forgives an affront fosters friendship,
but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend. - Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
- Before destruction one's heart is haughty,
but humility goes before honor. - Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,
but those who act faithfully are his delight. - Who are you to pass judgment on servants of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand.
- Because sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the human heart is fully set to do evil.
- But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
- Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day.
- I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
- Let us therefore no longer pass judgment on one another, but resolve instead never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of another.
- So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
- For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure.
- And whoever does not provide for relatives, and especially for family members, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
- If you refrain from trampling the sabbath,
from pursuing your own interests on my holy day;
if you call the sabbath a delight
and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs;
then you shall take delight in the Lord,
and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth;
I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. - May my teaching drop like the rain,
my speech condense like the dew;
like gentle rain on grass,
like showers on new growth. - The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. - May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
- See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
- For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
