- And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
- The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
he humbles and he exalts. - Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.

- Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
- Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it. - Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life. - You, Lord, keep my lamp burning;

Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

- Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
