Thine (2/4)

  • But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
  • If you refrain from trampling the sabbath,
    from pursuing your own interests on my holy day;
    if you call the sabbath a delight
    and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
    if you honor it, not going your own ways,
    serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs;
    then you shall take delight in the Lord,
    and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth;
    I will feed you with the heritage of your ancestor Jacob,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
  • So acknowledge today and take to heart that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.
  • He who finds a wife finds a good thing,
    and obtains favor from the Lord.
  • Because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
  • Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
  • The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
  • All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being.
  • The young lions suffer want and hunger,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
  • Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your parent;
    do not go to the house of your kindred in the day of your calamity.
    Better is a neighbor who is nearby
    than kindred who are far away.
  • Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
    So you will find favor and good repute
    in the sight of God and of people.
  • But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • “All things are lawful,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.
  • You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
  • For not by their own sword did they win the land,
    nor did their own arm give them victory;
    but your right hand, and your arm,
    and the light of your countenance,
    for you delighted in them.
  • Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
  • For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, busy with this very thing.
  • But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
  • Observe the sabbath day and keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you.
  • Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
  • If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless.
  • It does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
  • Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise.

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
