15 Bible Verses about Slavery

« Galatians 5:1 »
English Standard VersionKing James Version
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?”Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor. The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
