- In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.
- Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. - Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name!
Make his doings known among the peoples. - So is my word that goes out of my mouth:
it will not return to me void,
but it will accomplish that which I please,
and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do. - A fool has no delight in understanding,
but only in revealing his own opinion. - Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer. - Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips,
from a deceitful tongue. - A fool’s lips come into strife,
and his mouth invites beatings. - With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor,
but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge. - In all hard work there is profit,
but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty. - Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down,
but a kind word makes it glad. - If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
- Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking lies. - If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
- Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked is perverse. - It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling. - When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

but behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether. - Put away from yourself a perverse mouth.
Put corrupt lips far from you. - Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it would be done.”
- Open your mouth, judge righteously,
and serve justice to the poor and needy. - Excellent speech isn’t fitting for a fool,
much less do lying lips fit a prince.
