Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God, is Lord alone. You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. | Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. |
What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? | What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
|
I will, thereby, display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known to many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord. | I will magnify myself and sanctify myself, and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am Yahweh. |
Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another. | Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. |
However, God has revealed these things to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit explores everything, even the depths of God. | But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. |
God is faithful, and it is by him that you have been called into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. | God is faithful, through whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. |
Let everyone submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which derives from God, and whatever authorities exist have been instituted by God. | Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. |
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved: with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. | But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it. | The earth is Yahweh’s, with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell in it. |
And God said, “Let us make man in our image and likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the wild animals and reptiles that crawl upon the earth.” | God said, “Let’s make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” |
Adulterers! Do you not know that love of the world results in enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God. | You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. |
I will rejoice and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. | I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. |
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. | The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s love, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. |
For who is God except the Lord? Who is a rock aside from our God? | For who is God, besides Yahweh? Who is a rock, besides our God? |
He reveals deep and hidden mysteries and knows what lies in the darkness, for light dwells with him. | He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. |
But the Almighty we cannot find; he is unequaled in power and judgment, and in his righteousness he will not violate justice. | We can’t reach the Almighty. He is exalted in power. In justice and great righteousness, he will not oppress. |
Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he pleases. | But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever he pleases. |
For to you a thousand years are like a yesterday that has passed or one of the watches of the night. | For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night. |
I intend to prove the holiness of my great name which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. Thus, the nations will know that I am the Lord, says the Lord God, when through you I will display my holiness in their sight. | “I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am Yahweh,” says the Lord Yahweh, “when I am proven holy in you before their eyes.” |
He builds his upper chambers in the heavens and establishes his vault of the sky over the earth— the Lord is his name. | It is he who builds his rooms in the heavens, and has founded his vault on the earth; he who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth—Yahweh is his name. |
And I heard a loud voice proclaim from the throne: “Behold, God’s dwelling is with mankind; he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and he will be their God, God-with-them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will no longer be death. Neither will there be any mourning or crying or pain, for the old order has passed away.” | I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with people; and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more. The first things have passed away.” |
And a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” | Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” |
This is the Lord’s message to Zerubbabel: Not by force, nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. | This is Yahweh’s word to Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says Yahweh of Armies. |
And ‘to love him with all your heart, and with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself,’ is worth more than any burnt offerings and sacrifices. | And to love him with all the heart, with all the understanding, all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. |
You believe that there is one God. You do well to assert that. But even the demons believe and tremble. | You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe—and shudder. |
