- There is a path before each person that seems right,
but it ends in death. - For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
- O Lord, I have come to you for protection;
don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me, for you do what is right. - Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
- The lips of the godly speak helpful words,
but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words. - I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels. - He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
you are healed. - This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other.
- Don’t envy violent people
or copy their ways.
Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord,
but he offers his friendship to the godly. - You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
- The Lord is righteous in everything he does;
he is filled with kindness. - Hear my prayer, O Lord;
listen to my plea!
Answer me because you are faithful and righteous. - Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
- You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
- Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. - But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.
- Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
- So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help. - I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
- For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.
- But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.
- Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
- In the night I search for you;
in the morning I earnestly seek you.
For only when you come to judge the earth
will people learn what is right. - You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
- The Lord is good and does what is right;
he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
He leads the humble in doing right,
teaching them his way.
