| Therefore, brethren, I implore you by the mercies of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and acceptable to God—a spiritual act of worship. | And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. |

| Let your love be sincere. Loathe what is evil and hold fast to what is good. | Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. |
| Love one another with genuine affection. Esteem others more highly than yourself. | Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. |
| Do not be lacking in zeal, but serve the Lord with spiritual fervor. | Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. |
| Be joyful in your hope. Be patient in times of affliction. Persevere in prayer. | Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. |
| Bless those who persecute you; bless them and do not curse them. | Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. |
| Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. | Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. |
| Live in harmony with one another. Do not consider yourself to be better than others, but associate with the lowly, and never be conceited. | Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! |
| As much as possible, and to the extent of your ability, live in peace with everyone. | Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. |
| Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good. | Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good. |
