| Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. | Let no one delude himself. If anyone among you considers himself to be wise by worldly standards, he must become a fool in order to be truly wise. |
| This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. | This is ‘the stone rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone.’ |

| But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. | However, to those who did accept him and who believed in his name he granted the power to become children of God. |
| He must increase, but I must decrease. | He must increase; I must decrease. |
| Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. | Consequently, anyone united to Christ is a new creation. The old order has passed away. Behold, all has become new. |
| But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. | However, now that you have been freed from sin and bound to the service of God, the benefit you receive is sanctification, and the end is eternal life. |
| But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine. | As for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine. |
| For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. | He made him who did not know sin to be sin for our sake, so that through him we might become the righteousness of God. |
| For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. | For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. |
| Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. | If in speaking I use human tongues and angelic as well, but do not have love, I am nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
| Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. | Those of you who seek to be justified by the Law have cut yourselves off from Christ and have fallen away from grace. |
| For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end. | For we will become partners with Christ only if we maintain firmly until the end the confidence we originally had. |
| And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. | The Lord God said, “Behold, man has become like one of us, for he has knowledge of that which is good and that which is evil. Now, we must prevent him from reaching out and taking the fruit of the tree of life lest he eat it and live forever.” The Lord God cast him out of the Garden of Eden; henceforth he was to labor tilling the soil from which he had come. |
| But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. | But whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never be thirsty. The water that I will give him will become a spring of water within him welling up to eternal life. |
| The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. | Authority will be granted to the diligent, but the lazy will be enslaved. |
| And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? | Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? |
| But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. | This must not be so with you. Instead, whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your servant. |
| He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. | Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but he who mingles with fools will suffer harm. |
| Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. | By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. |
| But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. | But from the very beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.’ And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate. |
| For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. | There is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing secret that will not become known. |
| And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. | He replied, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh’? | Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. | Come now and let us discuss this, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow. Though they are as red as crimson, they shall become as white as wool. |
| And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one. | The Lord will become king over the whole earth. When that day comes, he will be the only Lord, and his name will be the only name. |
| Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. | You shall not oppress the widow or the orphan. If you mistreat them and they cry out to me for help, I will surely hear their cry, and my fury will burn and I will put you to death by the sword. Your wives will be widows and your children will be orphans. |
