Bible Verses about 'Control'

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
