For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. | You are truly my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name, lead and guide me. |
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. | Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal. |

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. | For I know full well the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for your misfortune, plans that will offer you a future filled with hope. |
Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. | But as for me, I will look to the Lord. I place my hope in God my savior; my God will hear me. |
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. | For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. |
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. | Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. | For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen. |
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. | For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. |
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. | For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. |
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. | So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own. |
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. | For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the sake of the gospel will save it. |
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. | For sin is no longer to have any power over you, since you are not under the Law but under grace. |
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. | Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will see God. |
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake. | For it has been granted you not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him. |
The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. | The Lord will battle for you. Be calm! |
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. | This is how we know what love is: he laid down his life for us, and we in turn must be prepared to lay down our lives for our brethren. |
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. | For I am not ashamed of the gospel, since it is the power of God that offers salvation to everyone who has faith—to Jews first, and then to Gentiles as well. |
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. | Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. |
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. | Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. |
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | In the same way, even the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs that cannot be put into words. |
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. | He gave himself for us in order to deliver us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people as his own who are eager to do good. |
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. | O God, you are my God, for whom I have been searching earnestly. My soul yearns for you and my body thirsts for you, like the earth when it is parched, arid and without water. |
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. | For everything there is a season, and a time for every activity under heaven. |
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. | This, in fact, is what you have been called to do, because Christ himself suffered for you and left an example for you to follow in his footsteps. |
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. | Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Rather, always aim to achieve what is best for each other and for everyone. |
