- The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. - Our God is in the heavens;
he does whatever he pleases. - And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live. - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.”

for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. - I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God's gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.
- But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
- Just as water reflects the face,
so one human heart reflects another. - So God created humankind in his image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. - When the Lord your God has blessed you, as he promised you, you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.
- As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
- But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.
- Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
- Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists,” and that “there is no God but one.”
