Bible Verses about 'Lay'

  • No one can have greater love
    than to lay down his life for his friends.
  • This is how we know what love is:
    he laid down his life for us,
    and we in turn must be prepared
    to lay down our lives for our brethren.
  • But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid! I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, as he promised he would be. Come and see the place where he lay.”
  • Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance toward maturity. We must not be forever laying the foundation: repentance for actions that lead to death, faith in God, instruction about baptisms and the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
  • The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
  • I am the good shepherd.
    The good shepherd
    lays down his life for the sheep.
  • Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where they will be destroyed by moth and rust and where thieves break in and steal. Rather, store up treasure for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves cannot break in and steal.
  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that weighs us down and the sins that so easily distract us and with perseverance run the race that lies ahead of us.
  • In peace I lie down and sleep,
    for only with your help, O Lord,
    can I rest secure.
  • If you refuse to listen to me
    and do not sincerely resolve
    to give glory to my name,
    says the Lord of hosts,
    I will send a curse on you,
    and I will turn your blessings into a curse.
    Indeed, I have already done so
    because you have not heeded my warning.
  • O Lord, at daybreak you hear my voice;
    at daybreak I bring my petition before you
    and await your reply.
  • With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, ignoring its shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • Therefore, rid yourselves of everything sordid and of every wicked excess, and welcome in all humility the word that is implanted in you and is able to save your souls.
  • Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your noble confession of faith in the presence of many witnesses.
  • He reserves his wisdom for the upright
    and is a shield to those who lead blameless lives.
  • The fear of others will prove to be a snare,
    but whoever trusts in the Lord is secure.
  • So today acknowledge it and take it to heart that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on the earth below. There is no other.
  • A patient man shows good sense,
    but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly.
  • I will make haste and not delay
    to observe your precepts.
  • He builds his upper chambers in the heavens
    and establishes his vault of the sky over the earth—
    the Lord is his name.
  • I will, thereby, display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known to many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
  • The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise, as some think in terms of delay, but he is patient with you. It is not his wish that any should perish but rather that all should be brought to repentance.
  • Therefore say to them, “Thus says the Lord God: The fulfillment of my words will not be delayed any longer. What I have said will be done now. This is the word of the Lord God.”
  • When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for God has no pleasure in fools. Fulfill the vow you have made.
  • Yet, O Lord, you are our Father;
    we are the clay and you are our potter;
    all of us are the work of your hands.

I intend to prove the holiness of my great name which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. Thus, the nations will know that I am the Lord, says the Lord God, when through you I will display my holiness in their sight.

The way of God is blameless,
and the Lord’s promise proves true;
