- But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
- Let not mercy and truth forsake thee:
bind them about thy neck;
write them upon the table of thine heart:
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding
in the sight of God and man. - Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. - For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
- And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
- Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
- And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
- The rich man's wealth is his strong city,
and as an high wall in his own conceit. - For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
- He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;
and what doth the Lord require of thee,
but to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with thy God? - Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
- Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
- Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him:
fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. - The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious;
but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. - It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy,
and after vows to make enquiry. - Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy:
for thou renderest to every man
according to his work. - Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
- Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.
- A man's gift maketh room for him,
and bringeth him before great men. - So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
- And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
- For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- He that hath no rule over his own spirit
is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. - I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
- The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice:
and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
