Man (2/4)

A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats. The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.
As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the wits of his neighbor. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
Jesus answered, “As it is written: ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’ ”But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
The fear of others will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is secure.Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
In my anguish I cried out; the Lord heard my plea, and I was saved from all my troubles. In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.
A perverse man sows strife, and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships.A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends.
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his very life? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
I, I alone, am the one who comforts you. Why then do you fear mortal men who must die, human beings who must perish like grass?I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?
But from the very beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.’ And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate. But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.
A fool gives free rein to his anger, but a wise man bides his time and calms it.Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.
With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me?The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?
A good man produces good from the store of goodness in his heart, whereas an evil man produces evil from the store of evil within him. For the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart.A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death. There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.
A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar.Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest.
A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him, but humility comes before honors.Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.
So if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out there. If they say, ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For just as lightning comes from the east and is visible even in the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.
The Lord God made clothing for the man and woman out of animal skins and he clothed them. And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his very life? Or what can he give in exchange for his life? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet?
A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season.Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!
Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts.Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.
A patient man shows good sense, but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly.People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.
He replied, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said: ‘That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh’? And so they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son.Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.

Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.“Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
