And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. | And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. |
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? | For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? |

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” | So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. |
A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends. | A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. |
Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. | A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. |
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him. | The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. |
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? | For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? |
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. | Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. |
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. | There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. |
Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. | Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. |
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. | Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. |
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. | So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. |
A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. | The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. |
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” | But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. |
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. | It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. |

Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands. | Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. |
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord. | Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. |
For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. | For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. |
How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. | How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. |
A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart. | Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. |
The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. | And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. |
It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. | It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. |
We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. | For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. |
Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice. | A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. |
