Own (3/4)

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine. Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine. You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good? And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.
Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.
Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you!
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad.My child, if your heart is wise, my own heart will rejoice!
May he grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans!May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.
Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.Never abandon a friend— either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Whoever keeps the commandment keeps his life; he who despises his ways will die.Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death.
Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you.Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.
Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time.If you obey all the decrees and commands I am giving you today, all will be well with you and your children. I am giving you these instructions so you will enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time.

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”
