- For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly.
- The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.
- O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples. - For the customs of the peoples are false:
a tree from the forest is cut down,
and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
people deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
nor is it in them to do good. - It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in mortals. - In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I am not afraid;
what can flesh do to me? - No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
- He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.”
- For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
- A gift opens doors;
it gives access to the great. - Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
- So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.
- Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse.
- You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
- So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
- Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.” But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?” When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame; and the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing.
- Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity
and passing over the transgression
of the remnant of your possession?
He does not retain his anger forever,
because he delights in showing clemency. - And you will say in that day:
Give thanks to the Lord,
call on his name;
make known his deeds among the nations;
proclaim that his name is exalted. - Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
- Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.
- The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. - And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And all ate and were filled. What was left over was gathered up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
- If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
- How very good and pleasant it is
when kindred live together in unity! - See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all.
