Bible Verses about 'Rather'

It is better to acquire wisdom rather than gold, and more desirable to acquire understanding rather than silver. How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!
Jesus replied, “Blessed, rather, are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”
An honorable name is more to be desired than great riches, and high esteem is preferable to silver and gold.Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.
It is better to spend one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house than dwell inside the tents of the wicked.A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
Have no fear of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Do I derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? asks the Lord God. Would I not rather rejoice to see them turn away from their wickedness and live?Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.
Therefore, let us cease passing judgment on one another, but rather judge never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.
Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather seek to expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of what deeds people do in secret.Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in the knowledge that the spirits are subject to you. Rejoice rather that your names are inscribed in heaven. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.
It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior, one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city.Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
Rather, professing truth and love, we will in all things grow into him who is the head, Christ.Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
Rather, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and allow no opportunity for the flesh to gratify its sinful desires.Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.
At the time that discipline is received, it always seems painful rather than pleasant, but afterward it yields a harvest of peace and uprightness to those who have been trained by it.No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
Rather, grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for all eternity. Amen.Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not my own; rather, it comes from him who sent me.”So Jesus told them, “My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.”
Rather, let justice flow like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.
Do not seek to adorn yourself externally—by the braiding of your hair and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothing. Rather, let your adornment be of your inner self, the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery leading to fear; rather, you received the Spirit of adoption, enabling us to cry out, “Abba! Father!”So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal. So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Rather, seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

For I am longing to see you so that I may bestow on you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or, rather, so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.

Dispose my heart to follow your statutes and to flee selfish gain.Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!
