Bible Verses about 'Rather'

It is better to acquire wisdom rather than gold, and more desirable to acquire understanding rather than silver. How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Jesus replied, “Blessed, rather, are those who hear the word of God and obey it!”But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
An honorable name is more to be desired than great riches, and high esteem is preferable to silver and gold.A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
It is better to spend one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house than dwell inside the tents of the wicked. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Have no fear of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Do I derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? asks the Lord God. Would I not rather rejoice to see them turn away from their wickedness and live?Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Therefore, let us cease passing judgment on one another, but rather judge never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather seek to expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of what deeds people do in secret. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in the knowledge that the spirits are subject to you. Rejoice rather that your names are inscribed in heaven.Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior, one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city.He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Rather, professing truth and love, we will in all things grow into him who is the head, Christ. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Rather, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and allow no opportunity for the flesh to gratify its sinful desires. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
At the time that discipline is received, it always seems painful rather than pleasant, but afterward it yields a harvest of peace and uprightness to those who have been trained by it.Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Rather, grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for all eternity. Amen. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not my own; rather, it comes from him who sent me.”Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
Rather, let justice flow like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Do not seek to adorn yourself externally—by the braiding of your hair and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothing. Rather, let your adornment be of your inner self, the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery leading to fear; rather, you received the Spirit of adoption, enabling us to cry out, “Abba! Father!”For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Rather, seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
When Jesus heard this, he said, “It is not the healthy who need a physician, but rather those who are sick.”But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
But he answered me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Hence, I will boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell within me.And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Rather, be kind to one another and compassionate, and forgive one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
For I am longing to see you so that I may bestow on you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or, rather, so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

Dispose my heart to follow your statutes and to flee selfish gain.Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
