- Because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
- And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

even death on a cross. - One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city. - Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.

- But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.
- See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all.
- But I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.
- Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
- No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
- Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
- Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths. - Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke? - But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
