Say (3/4)

I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart. My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart.
I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!
Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are expedient. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of anything.
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
“Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said, “for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”Jesus said to her, “Don’t hold me, for I haven’t yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned. But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear— not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”, so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.
So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.”
When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. Therefore, when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.
I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your loving kindness, Yahweh, held me up.
As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”For this cause a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife. Then the two will become one flesh.
And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.”Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth.’”
This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’But this thing I commanded them, saying, ‘Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. Walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’
You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe—and shudder.
For the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’”For it is written, “‘As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘to me every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess to God.’”
I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.
But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”But just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior, because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

Bible verse of the day

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
