- Keep your tongue from evil
And your lips from speaking deceit. - But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, that is, Christ.
- Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. - The good person out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil person out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.

- A soothing tongue is a tree of life,
But perversion in it crushes the spirit. - For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to rein in the whole body as well.
- And when you are praying, do not use thoughtless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
- But I tell you that for every careless word that people speak, they will give an account of it on the day of judgment.
- Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise;
When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent. - When there are many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable,
But one who restrains his lips is wise. - And when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you at that time; for you are not the ones speaking, but it is the Holy Spirit.
- You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.
- While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!”
- Open your mouth for the people who cannot speak,
For the rights of all the unfortunate. - A person has joy in an apt answer,
And how delightful is a timely word! - A gentle answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger. - Little children, let’s not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
- Words from the mouth of a wise person are gracious, while the lips of a fool consume him.
- One who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets,
But one who is trustworthy conceals a matter. - From the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.
- My mouth is filled with Your praise
And with Your glory all day long. - Now if your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
- Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.
- Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
- That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
- Without consultation, plans are frustrated,
But with many counselors they succeed. - Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
- For,
“The one who desires life, to love and see good days,
Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
He must turn away from evil and do good;
He must seek peace and pursue it.” - Pleasant words are a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. - Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make His deeds known among the peoples. - If I speak with the tongues of mankind and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- So will My word be which goes out of My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it. - May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. - A fool does not delight in understanding,
But in revealing his own mind. - Rescue my soul, Lord, from lying lips,
From a deceitful tongue. - With his mouth the godless person destroys his neighbor,
But through knowledge the righteous will be rescued. - A fool’s lips bring strife,
And his mouth invites beatings. - Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs it down,
But a good word makes it glad. - In all labor there is profit,
But mere talk leads only to poverty. - If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
- Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
But the mouth of the wicked, what is perverted. - Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
- But make sure your statement is, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil origin.
- Avoiding strife is an honor for a person,
But any fool will quarrel. - When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away
Through my groaning all day long. - Rid yourself of a deceitful mouth
And keep devious speech far from you.
