Speak out and pronounce righteous judgments; defend the rights of the wretched and the poor. | Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the poor and needy. |
Jesus answered them, “Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to this fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be accomplished.” | And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.” |
As long as I remained silent, my body wasted away as the result of my groaning throughout the day. | When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. |
A word is not even on my tongue and you, O Lord, are completely aware of it. | Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, Lord, You know it all. |
Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather seek to expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of what deeds people do in secret. | Do not participate in the useless deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. |
Fine words are not becoming to a fool, and much less are false words to a noble. | Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool, Much less are lying lips to a prince. |
The heavens were made by the word of the Lord, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. | By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their lights. |
Blessings are showered on the head of the righteous, but sorrow will cover the face of the wicked. | Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. |
All you need to do is to say ‘Yes’ if you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ if you mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond this comes from the evil one. | But make sure your statement is, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil origin. |
In my anguish I cried out to the Lord and called to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. | In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. |
For one believes in the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. | For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. |
I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will be continually on my lips. | I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. |
Above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth, or use any oaths at all. Let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No.” Otherwise you may be condemned. | But above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you do not fall under judgment. |
I have not strayed from the commandments of his lips; I have treasured in my heart the words of his mouth. | I have not failed the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. |
No prophecy ever came from human initiative. Rather, when people spoke as messengers of God, they did so under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. | For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. |
If you refrain from traveling on the Sabbath and from engaging in your own interests on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a day of joy and regard the Lord’s holy day as honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way, serving your own interests, or attending to your own affairs; then you will find true happiness in the Lord, and I will enable you to ride upon the heights of the earth. I will nourish you with the heritage of your father Jacob, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. | If, because of the Sabbath, you restrain your foot From doing as you wish on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a pleasure, and the holy day of the Lord honorable, And honor it, desisting from your own ways, From seeking your own pleasure And speaking your own word, Then you will take delight in the Lord, And I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; And I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. |
God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light. | Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. |
On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. | When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. |
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to do so. | And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with different tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out. |
If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him. | If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him. |
I do not say this because I have been in need, for I have learned to be content with whatever I have. | Not that I speak from need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. |
You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him. | And if you say in your heart, ‘How will we recognize the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ When the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, and the thing does not happen or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you are not to be afraid of him. |
Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” | And looking at them, Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” |
The Lord abhors lying lips, but he delights in those who are truthful. | Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal faithfully are His delight. |
Jesus looked at them and said, “For men it is impossible, but not for God. For God all things are possible.” | Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.” |
