Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful. | Those who are attentive to a matter will prosper, and happy are those who trust in the Lord. |
Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. | Happy are those who keep his decrees, who seek him with their whole heart. |
But the one who endures to the end will be saved. | But the one who endures to the end will be saved. |
Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything. | Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives; those who open wide their lips come to ruin. |
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. | We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. |
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. | Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. |
Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. | Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. |
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? | What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? |
John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” | In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” |

But you belong to God, my dear children. People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray. | Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but one who rejects a rebuke goes astray. |
Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. | Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. |
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. | Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him; do not fret over those who prosper in their way, over those who carry out evil devices. |
Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. | Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. | Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah |
Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them. | They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them. |
To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper. | To get wisdom is to love oneself; to keep understanding is to prosper. |
But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. | The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. |
Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. | Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. |
Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. | The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. |
