- Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God. - And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
- Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
- And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.
- Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?”
For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. - But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”
- And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
- I have made a covenant with my eyes;
how then could I gaze at a virgin? - I, I am he who comforts you;
who are you that you are afraid of man who dies,
of the son of man who is made like grass. - See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
- Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
- For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
- One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
- For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
- When your eyes light on it, it is gone,
for suddenly it sprouts wings,
flying like an eagle toward heaven. - And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
- The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid? - My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all the day. - But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
- Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
- He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
- And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
- So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
- In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me? - “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.Next verse!With image
