How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day.
Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”

We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law.We are Jews by nature and not sinners from the Gentiles; nevertheless, knowing that a person is not justified by works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law; since by works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Of course, there is great gain in godliness combined with contentment.But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.
