Chinese (traditional)- This is what love is:
not that we have loved God,
but that he loved us
and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. - Do not love the world
or what is in the world.
If anyone does love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. - However, if we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just
will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all wrongdoing. - However, whoever lives by the truth
comes to the light
so that it may be clearly seen
that his deeds have been done in God. - Amen, amen, I say to you,
a servant is not greater than his master,
nor is a messenger greater
than the one who sent him. - This is the message
that we have heard from him
and that we declare to you:
God is light,
and there is no darkness at all in him. - If you keep my commandments,
you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in his love. - Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever receives the one I send
receives me,
and whoever receives me
receives the one who sent me. - On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried out,
“If anyone is thirsty,
let him come to me and drink.” - This is how we know what love is:
he laid down his life for us,
and we in turn must be prepared
to lay down our lives for our brethren. - In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you? - Then Jesus said to him,
“You have come to believe
because you have seen me.
Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have come to believe.” - God’s love was revealed to us in this way:
God sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him. - I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me, and I in him,
will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing. - Dear children,
you are from God
and you have conquered them,
for the one who is in you is greater
than the one who is in the world. - If anyone wishes to serve me,
he must follow me.
Where I am,
there also will my servant be.
If anyone serves me,
my Father will honor that person. - And now, dear children,
abide in him,
so that when he appears
we may have confidence
and not be put to shame by him
at his coming. - For God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him
may not perish
but may attain eternal life. - I have made your name known to them,
and I will make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me
may be in them, and I in them. - Jesus answered them,
“I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never be hungry,
and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” - I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know
that you have eternal life. - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not believe in the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God rests upon him. - We have come to know
and to believe in
the love that God has for us.
God is love,
and whoever abides in love
abides in God,
and God in him. - And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us.
And we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth. - If anyone is rich in worldly possessions
and sees a brother in need
but refuses to open his heart,
how can the love of God abide in him?
Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
