What (3/4)

  • When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
  • Be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward.
  • But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to make this freewill offering? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
  • Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
  • But I with the voice of thanksgiving
    will sacrifice to you;
    what I have vowed I will pay.
    Deliverance belongs to the Lord!
  • For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
  • Pay to all what is due them—taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
  • Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.
  • But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.
  • When you make a vow to God, do not delay fulfilling it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow.
  • But if the wicked turn away from all their sins that they have committed and keep all my statutes and do what is lawful and right, they shall surely live; they shall not die.
  • Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
  • But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.
  • Go, eat your bread with enjoyment, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has long ago approved what you do.
  • Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
    He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
  • Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
    and speak the truth from their heart;
    who do not slander with their tongue,
    and do no evil to their friends,
    nor take up a reproach against their neighbors.
  • But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
  • So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.
  • Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.”
  • So now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? Only to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today, for your own well-being.
  • For he will repay according to each one's deeds.
  • Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”
  • Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you.
  • And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
