- Too much talk leads to sin.
Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. - Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
- I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you. - Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
- Godliness makes a nation great,
but sin is a disgrace to any people. - For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
- Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. - I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.
- But he was pierced for our rebellion,
crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed. - But if wicked people turn away from all their sins and begin to obey my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live and not die.
- Wash yourselves and be clean!
Get your sins out of my sight.
Give up your evil ways. - The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity,
but it destroys the wicked. - This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
- Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
- Keep the commandments and keep your life;
despising them leads to death. - So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.
- At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
- For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
- I have swept away your sins like a cloud.
I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist.
Oh, return to me,
for I have paid the price to set you free. - This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
- You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
- When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long. - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
- He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. - If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.
