Sin (4/5)

  • Evil people get rich for the moment,
but the reward of the godly will last.
  • Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
  • When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
  • He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
  • He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.
  • When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.
  • Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means.
  • But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
  • If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.
  • What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.
  • You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
  • So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
  • When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.
  • Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
  • It is better to be godly and have little
than to be evil and rich.
For the strength of the wicked will be shattered,
but the Lord takes care of the godly.
  • You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
  • The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.
  • But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil;
he will erase their memory from the earth.
  • But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
  • So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
  • I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
  • A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
  • But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.
  • He reveals deep and mysterious things
and knows what lies hidden in darkness,
though he is surrounded by light.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
