Sin (3/6)

  • Sober up, as you rightly ought to, and sin no more, for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
  • Come now, let us argue it out,
    says the Lord:
    If your sins are like scarlet,
    will they become like snow?
    If they are red like crimson,
    will they become like wool?
  • But the scripture has imprisoned all things under the power of sin, so that what was promised through the faith of Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
  • I treasure your word in my heart,
    so that I may not sin against you.
  • Righteousness exalts a nation,
    but sin is a reproach to any people.
  • For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
  • For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind.
  • I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
  • Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
    remove your evil deeds
    from before my eyes;
    cease to do evil.
  • But he was wounded for our transgressions,
    crushed for our iniquities;
    upon him was the punishment that made us whole,
    and by his bruises we are healed.
  • But if the wicked turn away from all their sins that they have committed and keep all my statutes and do what is lawful and right, they shall surely live; they shall not die.
  • Since, therefore, Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same intention (for whoever has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin).
  • No longer present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness.
  • The way of the Lord is a stronghold for the upright
    but destruction for evildoers.
  • This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.
  • Those who keep the commandment will live;
    those who are heedless of their ways will die.
  • That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
  • Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
  • I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud
    and your sins like mist;
    return to me, for I have redeemed you.
  • In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
  • While I kept silent, my body wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
  • You want something and do not have it, so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it, so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have because you do not ask.
  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
  • But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
  • Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

As far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
