Conversion (2/2)

  • Come to a sober and right mind, and sin no more; for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
  • Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator.
  • Give heed to my reproof;
    I will pour out my thoughts to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
  • No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did.
  • Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.” But they did not hear or heed me, says the Lord.
  • For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death.
  • Let us test and examine our ways,
    and return to the Lord.
  • Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
  • Take words with you
    and return to the Lord;
    say to him,
    “Take away all guilt;
    accept that which is good,
    and we will offer
    the fruit of our lips.”
  • When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.
  • For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever.
  • Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ, and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
  • Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord God, and not rather that they should turn from their ways and live?

For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us, so also our consolation is abundant through Christ.
