- The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.”
- Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident. - I, I am he who comforts you;
why then are you afraid of a mere mortal who must die,
a human being who fades like grass? - O how abundant is your goodness
that you have laid up for those who fear you
and accomplished for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of everyone! - Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
- But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people.”
- Wealth is a ransom for a person’s life,
but a poor person pays no attention to a rebuke. - For the customs of the peoples are false:
a tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
they deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammers and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
nor is it in them to do good.
