  • Fine speech is not becoming to a fool;
    still less is false speech to a ruler.
  • A gossip goes about telling secrets,
    but one who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a confidence.
  • The heavens are telling the glory of God;
    and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
    Day to day pours forth speech,
    and night to night declares knowledge.
  • But let justice roll down like waters,
    and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
  • Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.
  • By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.
  • Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
    but whoever follows perverse ways will be found out.
  • About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
  • I had eaten no rich food, no meat or wine had entered my mouth, and I had not anointed myself at all, for the full three weeks.

    seek justice,
    rescue the oppressed,
    defend the orphan,
    plead for the widow.
  • Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great:
    He was revealed in flesh,
    vindicated in spirit,
    seen by angels,
    proclaimed among Gentiles,
    believed in throughout the world,
    taken up in glory.

    To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
  • God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
  • Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
  • A friend loves at all times,
    and kinsfolk are born to share adversity.
  • But you, O Lord, reign forever;
    your throne endures to all generations.
  • Do not adorn yourselves outwardly by braiding your hair, and by wearing gold ornaments or fine clothing; rather, let your adornment be the inner self with the lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God's sight.
  • Seek the Lord and his strength,
    seek his presence continually.
  • Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
  • Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
    but the companion of fools suffers harm.
  • The Lord makes poor and makes rich;
    he brings low, he also exalts.
  • Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure.
